28th of February the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced that Ukrainians and their family members who arrived in Canada under the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) on or before March 31, 2024, now have until March 31, 2026.
During this period, they can apply for a new open work permit valid for up to three years, renew an existing work permit, or apply for a new study permit, subject to the standard fees. Those wishing to renew their visitor or student status may continue to do so.
These temporary measures are intended to allow Ukrainians and their families to continue working and studying in Canada during these challenging times, with the option to return home safely when conditions improve.
Additionally, free settlement services will be available for all Ukrainian temporary residents and their family members in Canada until March 31, 2025.
How to Obtain Permanent Residency in Canada After the CUAET Program Ends?
There are critical steps you have to take to secure your future in Canada.
Remember, more than 300,000 Ukrainians and their families have been welcomed under the CUAET program. If you are one of them, start applying right away to ensure you have enough time to prepare and receive your approval. There is currently a backlog in Canadian immigration, and processing times are longer than expected.
