Other Federal Routes to Permanent Residence

Besides Express Entry and the Provincial Nominee Program, some federal programs are based on a job offer from an approved (designated) employer in a specific region: the Atlantic Immigration Program (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador), the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (14 participating communities) and the Francophone Community Immigration Pilot (six French-speaking minority communities outside Quebec). The Home Care Worker Immigration Pilots for caregivers are not accepting new applications until further notice.

PR Card Renewal

PR Card Replacement

If a PR Card has been lost or stolen, it must be replaced.  Depending on the scenario, different protocols must be followed.

REPLACING A LOST PR CARD

If you have lost your PR Card, you should report the card as lost to IRCC as soon as possible. You must complete the “Solemn Declaration Concerning a Lost, Stolen or Destroyed or Never Received Permanent Resident Card”, and explain how you lost the card.

REPLACING A STOLEN PR CARD

If your PR Card was stolen, you need to report the theft to the local police and inform the IRCC as soon as possible.  You should only report your PR Card as stolen if you know that it was definitely stolen. If you are not sure, report it as lost instead.

Protecting Your PR Status

Your permanent resident status does not end just because your PR card expires, but it can be lost if you do not meet the residency obligation of 730 days in Canada within the last five years. An officer can review this when you renew your PR card, apply for a PRTD or return to Canada. If an officer decides that you have not met the obligation, you may be able to appeal to the Immigration Appeal Division (IAD) of the Immigration and Refugee Board, where humanitarian and compassionate factors are also considered. Appeal deadlines are short, so please contact us as soon as you receive a decision. If you have spent long periods outside Canada, please get advice before you travel or apply.

PR Travel Document

AMEND THE RECORD OF LANDING APPLICATION

An IMM1000 Record of Landing / Confirmation of Permanent Residence document is given to all permanent residents of Canada at the time of their landing regardless of age.  If your landing document contains incorrect information, you can apply to have this information amended.

Information which can be amended includes:

CONFIRMATION OF PR OR VALID TEMPORARY RESIDENT DOCUMENTS

A Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) is the document IRCC issues when your permanent residence application is approved. It proves your permanent resident status until you receive your PR card. If you are outside Canada, you must travel to Canada on or before the “valid to” date on your COPR and present it to the officer at the port of entry. If you are already in Canada when your application is approved, you usually confirm your permanent residence online through IRCC’s Permanent Residence Portal, and an electronic COPR (e-COPR) is uploaded to your account, without the need to leave and re-enter Canada.

VERIFICATION OF STATUS

A Verification of Status document includes information from your original Record of Landing, Confirmation of Permanent Residence, Work Permit, Study Permit, or other immigration documents. It can be used to provide proof of historical immigration information, such as your date and place of entry to Canada. The Verification of Status document cannot be used for travel and does not serve as an identity document.

M. Tabatabaee Immigration Services Inc. is ready to assist you in attaining all requisite Permanent Residency-related Documents.
