Manitoba – Business Investor Stream (BIS)

The Business Investor Stream (BIS) allows Manitoba to recruit and nominate qualified business investors and entrepreneurs who have the intent and ability to start or purchase businesses in Manitoba.

There are two pathways: Entrepreneur pathway and Farm Investor Pathway.

In addition to the Business Investor Stream, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program has two other streams: the Skilled Worker Stream, for internationally trained and experienced workers whose skills are needed in Manitoba, and the International Education Stream, for international students who graduate in Manitoba and meet the province’s industry needs. Entrepreneur Pathway

Entrepreneur Pathway (EP) for applicants seeking to open a business in Manitoba. This provincial nomination makes applicants eligible to apply for Canadian Permanent residency Status. 

ELIGIBILITY

  • You must have a minimum of 3 years of full-time work experience in the past 5 years either as an active business owner or working in a senior management role of a successful business.
  • Business owners are given higher points in comparison to senior managers.
  • Business owners must have at least 33 1/3% ownership to qualify for points.
  • Minimum level of CLB 5
  • A minimum education level of Canadian high school equivalency.
  • Minimum net worth of $500,000 CAD.
  • The minimum investment is $250,000 CAD for businesses situated in the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region.
  • The minimum investment is $150,000 CAD if a business is situated outside of the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region
  • Your net worth must be verified by a third-party supplier approved by the MPNP. The verification report and your application must be submitted within 120 days of receiving your Letter of Advice to Apply (LAA).
  • Your business must create or maintain at least one job for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident in Manitoba (owners and their close relatives do not count).
  • A business research visit to Manitoba is recommended (not required). It must take place no more than one year before you submit your Expression of Interest.

Farm Investor Pathway (FIP)

The Farm Investor Pathway (FIP) is for individuals with proven farm business experience, sufficient available capital to invest, and who intend to establish and operate a farm in rural Manitoba.

ELIGIBILITY

  • You must have a minimum of 3 years of farm ownership and operation experience, supported by verifiable documents.
  • You must invest a minimum of $300,000 CAD.
  • You are expected to establish a farming business in rural Manitoba.
  • You must have a minimum net worth of $500,000 CAD
  • You must conduct a farm business research visit to Manitoba.
  • You must live on the farm and actively manage the farm business from within Manitoba.
