The Super Visa is a multiple-entry visitor visa tailored for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents. It allows holders to stay in Canada for up to five years per visit without the need for renewal.

The super visa can allow multiple entries for up to 10 years. Key requirements include: a signed letter of invitation from your child or grandchild, who must be at least 18, live in Canada and be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or registered Indian; proof that your host meets the minimum income for their family size; private medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company (or an approved foreign insurer) with at least $100,000 in emergency coverage for health care, hospitalization and repatriation, valid for at least one year from your date of entry and paid in full or in instalments with a deposit; and an immigration medical exam. Since March 31, 2026, the host can meet the income requirement in either of the two tax years before the application, and if the host (and any co-signer) meet a minimum share of the requirement, the visiting parent’s or grandparent’s income can be added to cover the rest.

Eligible family members can now extend their stay by up to two additional years while in Canada, permitting a continuous stay of up to seven years
